town lore

Centuries ago, many of the gods and goddesses lived as all-powerful beings. All of these deities were created by belief, whether through wishes or traditions, or worship of kings and queens of the old world.

However, as the 20th and 21st centuries crept in, religious belief began to dwindle. These gods were sectioned off from society and to the backs of their former worshipers' minds.

To keep themselves safe, they used the power they still had to create a town, as a haven from the land of no gods. Here, most of them have begun to work like ordinary beings with ordinary jobs. Nevertheless, they are still creatures of divinity, who can still once in a while perform their own forms of miracles.

While some gods have become content with this new town life, others still seek to secure worship in whatever way they can.

Frequently asked questions

1. What is the roleplay about?

This roleplay is a town!au and mythology!au roleplay. Essentially, this is a town of lost gods.

On one hand, this is a nice town and neighborhood where the gods live their lives as ordinary beings (that could even pass off as humans). They can do ordinary tasks and have jobs, and the gods in younger forms can even go to the local university.

On the other hand, the residents of this town are anything but ordinary. They are, after all, gods and goddesses of the old world that have just become accustomed to 21st century living.

2. What do you mean by "lost gods"?

Lost gods are those who have lost the same power and influence they once had because the number of worshipers they had began to dwindle. While these lost gods can live peacefully in a small town as if they are human, there are still those who want to thrive again and secure worship.

3. Do we choose an existing myth/god?

No. This isn't a Greek/Roman/Norse/Etc God au roleplay. Instead, you basically make your own god. You can get muse inspiration from existing mythologies but in the end, our roleplay is creating our own pantheon.

So, even if you derive inspiration from a certain deity (example: athena), you won't be known as that god. Instead, you'll be known as our very own god/goddess of wisdom.

4. Can our muses have superpowers?

Gods and goddesses here don't have superpowers per se, but since they are divine creatures, they can perform a few miracles here and there, as long as they are related to what kind of deity they are.

5. Will our muses have ordinary jobs?

Yes. Your muses can have any ordinary job or role like in a normal town!au, but there should be at least some relation or bearing to your deity role.

For example, a god of wisdom can take on the job of a teacher, life guru, or be a university student student council member, amongst other options as long as they relate to your muse's god form.

6. Will overlapping gods be allowed? (i.e. more than one deity of a certain thing)

Yes. Even in other pantheons, there's more than one god of the sun, for example. In any case, it's okay as long as your overall premise/backstory is distinct and/or harmonious with the other gods!

7. What are tips to make my muse for this roleplay?

CHARACTER GUIDE

For your deity, you can derive inspiration from any existing pantheon (Greek, Roman, Norse, Egyptian, Slavic, Japanese, Korean, Etc.). But you can also come up with your own muse from scratch!

In a sense, our roleplay was formed out of concepts we found in Neil Gaiman's American Gods, and the anime series Noragami.

For a better understanding on the concept, you can watch either of these clips: [x] / [x]

Note: While our concepts were made with these shows in mind, our roleplay is still also primarily a friendly town roleplay. Please keep that in mind when making your muses!

For your town job, you can pick any you'd like as long as it's a role that makes sense in any regular town!au. You can even choose to be a university student or professor!

The basic components include your Name (whether or not you choose to retain the name of your faceclaim or pick another alias), your God/Goddess Role (ex. God of the Arts), and your Town Role (ex. Interior Designer).
